HI, WE ARE MOUVEMENT MIEL

MM_logo.png

Mouvement Miel is an apicultural project that is currently in development as a close collaboration between a team of academics from the student organisation Academics for Development (AFD) and our project partner in the south of Bénin: Ferme-école Solidarités Agricoles Integrées (SAIN). This initiative aims to create an apicultural network in Benin, in a region where no beekeeping communities have been established.

THE PEOPLE

Development of a qualitative and structured training and instruction program at Ferme-école SAIN, both theoretical and practical for women and young adults.

THE BEES

Setting the basis for honey production. Increase efficiency by pre-conditioning beekeepers' techniques and processing in a specially designed room. Future perspective: producing a high-quality product.

THE FRAME

Examination of the farm and project structures on site in order to understand the connections between flora and fauna. Research on bees and plant interactions in Benin and derivation of methods.

FERME-ÉCOLE SAIN

The project partner

Ferme-école SAIN is an agricultural organisation that promotes agroecology and agro-forestry and provides training for young people from the surrounding villages. They previously collaborated in social projects to educate people lacking the resources and slow down the brain drain—values also present in the current beekeeping project.

ACADEMICS FOR DEVELOPMENT

Mouvement Miel is one of the projects taken up by the international student organization Academics For Development (AFD), a non-profit founded on social entrepreneurship. AFD aims to realise social impact and believes in the potential of students and the power of entrepreneurial action to do so. Therefore, AFD organises social impact oriented student consulting projects around the world. Multidisciplinary teams of motivated university students work during an academic year to solve a challenge, problem or question of a company, start-up or NGO. At the end of the year they go for several weeks to the project location to physically implement the solution. In 5 years, AFD has successfully organised over 40 projects in 17 different countries in Africa, Latin America, Europe and Southeast Asia.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Everyone has the opportunity to contribute to positive change - no matter how big or small. Your donation, along with that of other donors, brings us one step closer to our goal. Whatever amount of money or time you are willing to spend, know that your contribution makes a difference in the lives of others.

Moving Minds Foundation

This project is supported by Moving Minds: a foundation from university colleges of Leuven and Limburg (UCLL). It gives a face to the social involvement and commitment of the staff, students, alumni of UCLL and its partners. This both in UCLL's 'home regions' of Flemish Brabant and Limburg and abroad.
